VA Selects Robins & Morton/Coburn Contractors for New Mentor-Protégé Program

January 26, 2010 - Robins & Morton and Coburn Contractors are among a select few mentor-protégé construction teams recently selected to participate in a new program designed to help service-disabled and other Veteran-owned small businesses become more competitive in the marketplace. Under the program, mentor firm Robins & Morton will provide business assistance to Service Disabled Veteran owned protégé firm Coburn Contractors.

"For VA, it's a natural goal to award government contracts to qualified Veteran-owned small businesses," said Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric K. Shinseki. "Not only does it benefit the Veteran entrepreneur, but the VA gets the contractor support it needs more quickly and with less risk. All Veterans win by getting better services from VA."

Protégé firm, Coburn Contractors, is a Service Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) and a certified Veteran Owned Business with extensive construction experience including multiple projects with the VA and other DoD agencies and achieved stellar ratings.

"I am honored that the Department of Veterans Affairs has put their confidence in Coburn Contractors and Robins & Morton," said Jason S Coburn, owner of Coburn Contractors. "It is truly a privilege to serve those who serve our Country. This team is committed to providing the highest level of construction services to support those who put their lives on the line for our freedom."

Mentor firm Robins & Morton was founded in 1946 and has completed more than 1,000 complex healthcare, commercial and industrial construction projects throughout the United States including several projects with federal agencies. The firm is currently the contractor on the Audie L. Murphy VA Hospital Polytrauma Rehabilitation Center in San Antonio, Texas—the first Veterans Administration project being built with the Integrated Design Construct (IDC) method. The 84,000 square-foot facility will be one of only five Level 1 Polytrauma Rehabilitation centers in the country, and the only one in the Southwest.

"Robins & Morton is very proud to be involved with this new program." said Phil Yance, Division Manager, Robins & Morton. "We have worked with Coburn Contractors on a number of projects and welcome the opportunity to continue to mentor and assist their business efforts as we jointly pursue VA and other government-related opportunities throughout the country."
